Greg Lutzka could be the one to beat in Dallas
Greg Lutzka is the man to beat in the park (street) competition as the world's top skateboarders head to Dallas for the LG Action Sports Championships, November 9-11. Lutzka currently holds the number one position in World Cup Skateboarding's 2007 World Street Rankings after wins at Latin X Games and MASA PRO and a Silver medal finish at X Games 13. He also won two of the five events on the 2007 AST Dew Tour.
Even with competitors coming in from around the world, Lutzka has the advantage: He's spent the entire year traveling the globe, skating their best spots and soaking in worldly influence while filming for his shoe sponsor Globe's new serialized video collection, United by Fate.
Lutzka finished in 7th place at last year's LG Action Sports Championships event, and has been in the laboratory ever since, with two of the best personal trainers in the biz. His board-sponsor bosses Rodney Mullen and Daewon Song at Almost Skateboards are two of the biggest legends in the history of skateboarding, and run a team that also features the likes of Chris Haslam, Cooper Wilt, and breakout amateur skater Torey Pudwill. Lutzka credits each of them with inspiring him daily with new tricks, new ideas, and new ways to approach skateboarding as life.
Unassuming under his signature fedora, Lutzka's casual image helps hide a surprisingly powerful style, remarkable consistency, and some of the biggest tricks in pro skateboarding. While other skaters sometimes talk about "video tricks" - moves so difficult they would take dozens of takes to get the "make" on film - Lutzka breaks out his big guns all the time, when everything is on the line.
Lutzka will join more than 125 of the biggest action sports superstars in Dallas, competing for the World Champion title and a chunk of the $600,000 prize purse during the three-day sports and music event. The event will also feature Lutzka's hip-hop heroes Ludacris and Kanye West.
