Going Big: Vert Skaters Brace for Battle

Watch for an epic battle on the vert ramp when Pierre-Luc Gagnon, Bucky Lasek, and the world's top skateboarders throw down on the 14-foot behemoth at the 2007 LG Action Sports Championships.

2007 has been Gagnon's year: He won the first two Action Sports World Tour events this year in San Diego and Phoenix. He also won Latin X Games in Mexico and the Salt Lake City stop on the AST Dew Tour and - chasing after the likes of Shaun White and Bucky Lasek - took 2nd place at X Games 13 and the Dew Tour stops in Portland and Orlando.

PLG won't have it easy in Dallas: Last year's podium finishers Sandro Dias and Andy Macdonald will be back for more, too. Dias is skating faster and charging harder than ever before, and Macdonald is coming off of a big international competition win last month at the Extreme Playground contest in Berlin, Germany. Bucky Lasek won the Dew Tour stop in Orlando last month and will be in Dallas chasing after more cash to put into a new college fund for his new baby girl: You don't want to be messing with that kind of motivation.

Rune Glifberg has been taking down concrete bowl events and international vert competitions all year and will be a natural on the massive LG ramp, as will Bob Burnquist, European Skateboard Association Champion Juergen Horrwarth, and accomplished riders like Mathias Ringstrom, Danny Mayer, Anthony Furlong, Buster Halterman, and Jean Postec.

Some new names to watch for at the Championships this year: Rodrigo Menezes qualified for the LG Action Sports Championships earlier this year at Latin X Games in Mexico City (if you've been following vert skating for more than a few years you might recognize this Brazilian's name); and young wildcard skaters Alex Perelson (16), Rob Lorifice (18), and Adam Taylor (18) collectively represent a new generation of vert skaters looking to take over.

With skateboarding's biggest stars and biggest egos each grabbing for big air, big tricks, and the big money on the line, the action on the big ramp in Dallas is shaping up to be the biggest event of the year.

Speaking of big: Big Air pioneer/survivor Jake Brown is hoping to stage his comeback in Dallas. It would be his first competition since The Slam Heard 'Round the World - his 45 foot air to flat on the Megaramp at X Games 13. Will he? Won't he? Stay tuned, and don't miss the 2007 LG Action Sports Championships.

The LG Action Sports Championships will take place in Dallas November 9-11, 2007. To catch the action live, pick up tickets online, or tune in to the LG Action Sports Championships on CBS, Spike TV, and Versus.
