West Performed on Opening Night of the "Superbowl" of Action Sports; Ludacris, Cartel and Blake Lewis Round Out the Weekend
Six time Gammy award winner Kanye West joined an already full slate of fantastic action sports athletes and marquee musical acts for the LG Action Sports World Championships for the weekend of Nov. 9-11 at Reunion Arena.
West kicked-off the event on Friday night. Fellow hip-hop superstar and film star Ludacris will play Saturday night. National recording artists Cartel (Sunday afternoon) and American Idol runner-up Blake Lewis (Saturday afternoon) round out the line-up. In addition, more than 150 action sports superstars are competing for the title of World Champion as the LG Action Sports World Championships has once again turned Reunion Arena into a Texas-sized skate park from November 9 - 11.
West is a record producer and rapper who rose to fame early this decade. He released his debut album, The College Dropout, in 2004, his second album Late Registration in 2005, and his third album Graduation earlier this year. His first two albums received numerous awards (including six Grammys) and critical acclaim. West also runs his own record label GOOD Music. West's mascot and trademark is a teddy bear, which has appeared on the covers of his three albums as well as the single cover for his song "Stronger".
During the day session on Saturday, November 10, Lewis will be on hand to entertain those in attendance. The multi-talented singer-song writer/beatboxer captured the attention of America as the runner-up on the sixth season of American Idol. Recently signed to his first major label record deal with Arista Records and A.D.D., Lewis' "electro-funk-soul-pop" first studio album, is slated to be released on November 27.
Later tonight, Ludacris will take center stage, whipping the Reunion Arena crowd into a hip-hop frenzy. The Atlanta-based rapper went from local sensation to household name after Def Jam signed him to its label in 2000. The DefJam Recording artist and feature film star is among the most accomplished solo hi-hop artists ever with the second-most Billboard Hot 100 number one hits. He has sold more than thirteen million records in the U.S. alone and has quickly become one of the industry's most in-demand rappers, guesting on hits for everyone from Missy Elliott to Jermaine Dupri.
On Sunday, November 11, Cartel, a five-member American pop rock band, will make its appearance in Dallas. Their debut full length album, Chroma put them on Alternative Press's 2005 list of "Bands You Need to Know" and in August they released their new self-titled album featuring the hit single "Lose It". The band has sold nearly a half-million albums, scored heavy radio and MTV airplay including TRL, garnered critical acclaim from the likes of Rolling Stone, USA Today and Alternative Press and launched their first-ever headlining. There will be one additional musical act featured on Friday, November 11, but the confirmed artist is still to be determined and announced at a later date.
The prestigious LG Action Sports World Championships is the culmination of the 2007 competition season for Skateboarding, BMX, Inline Skating and Freestyle Motocross (FMX) pros and marks the fifth year that LG Electronics MobileComm U.S.A., Inc (LG Mobile Phones) has sponsored the event.
The professional athletes qualify to compete at the World Championships based on their results from a series of 22 qualifier events around the world. With its unparalleled field of athletes, comprehensive qualifying process and $600,000 in prize money up for grabs, the LG Action Sports World Championships has become the annual "Super Bowl" in the world of action sports.
Tickets to the LG Action Sports World Championships are on sale at all MetroPlex area TicketMaster locations as well as at the Reunion Arena box office. The event will be televised nationally on CBS as well as on Versus and Fuel TV in the U.S. as part of a platform that reaches more than one billion households globally.
